WE HAVE JUST ARRIVED! Landed, out of customs, metro tickets have been bought and we have already met up with our best friend! Who lives in Barcelona! We were headed to her apartment! How is this real life?!
Her building is in the gothic quarters of Barcelona and stunning! There is a old-style elevator and marble staircase you can take. All the buildings and architecture here is absolutely mind blowing and nothing like I have ever seen!
The first thing I did at her place was shower and change it was around 11 a.m. now. So, we went and got breakfast! There was a cafe close by called Gringa that she said was good, and well it was really good. I had the blueberry waffles with fruit (I was eager to taste the difference in food.) It was so flavorful, and filling and I believe under $13 euro!
After we walked around, and we were just trying to take it all in. We walked to the Arc de Triomf.
We also walked to this giant park in the middle of the city where the zoo is! We realized we were not that far from the aquarium. We decided we should definitely do that! It was actually amazing they had an awesome moving floor that went in a circle around this GIANT, I mean GIANT aquarium. We saw sharks, sting rays, so many fish, jelly fish, all the cool stuff you would expect to see. They had a roof top terrace too. It overlooked the Mediterranean Sea and the City!
Being in awe after the aquarium and then leaving and walking down the opposite side of the pier there were nothing, but yachts and I mean FANCY yachts. Coming from the Midwest that is just not something I see every day! We were in awe all over again!
After walking back closer to where we are staying my friend said she had a surprise for us and to not look up what we were about to do. I was already curious searching on my phone, and she yelled at me not to! haha. We lined up in a line on the side of a building with this plaque that said, "The Worlds 50 Best Bars" So I instantly said, "NO WAY."
I knew it was about to be amazing. It was a speakeasy kind of bar. Where you open a random door on a store front of a meat shop into this amazing bar called Paradiso. It used to be the best bar in the world! I'm not sure where it ranks now! our drinks are shown below!
Mine: A sweet drink with a chocolate moon on top that was actually all really good and not expensive. I'm really picky about my drinks and I drank it all.
My friend who lives in Spain she got one that looked kind of like an oyster, and you swallow it like a shot!
The last one was split between both of my friends and used a laser to light a match and smoke the drops of wine that infused their actual cocktail! it was insane, like a full-blown laser at our table!
After our cocktails it was time for our dinner reservation! We had explored all day and after adjusting to the time it was a bit early, but we were ready to call it a night! Of course, the first night I had to order paella! It's a famous dish in Spain made of rice usually cooked in a shallow pan with saffron and seafood. It has been on my bucket list to eat it in Spain and there I was.
My paella! In all its glory! Haha. But seriously it was so perfect. Oddly enough the name of the restaurant is "The Snails" and they had snails on the menu... So of course, we ordered them! Honestly, they were one of the best things I ate the whole entire trip! If you're ever here, order the snails.
You just have to try for yourself. You'll be surprised at the flavor. Very buttery and creamy.
The waiter was so nice and knew we were having such a good time. He gave us these little post cards to take home! It was a perfect day and night in Barcelona! Now time for sleep to explore again tomorrow.
